With the intention of creating a new local parking area, the project promoted the following programme:
- Coherent urban integration of the new car park through the creation of a new green space for public use.
- Creation of a new Street Workout park;
- Resolution of altimetric discrepancies resulting from the creation of the new car park.
- New pedestrian link between the Street Workout park and Rua dos Oceanos.
- Promoting green spaces with low maintenance and water consumption.
With these intentions in mind, Parque do Pontal is described in terms of the following components:
- Perimeter paths: Walks associated with existing roads. On Rua da Central there is an alignment of Celtis australis, which has been fully preserved and is now continued along the walkway that follows Rua dos Oceanos, with the same species. The confident route with Rua do Oceano Atlântico remains unchanged.
- Car park: A 93-space car park with two access points - on Rua dos Oceanos and Rua da Central - and a retaining wall has been designed at the end of the street, bordering Rua do Oceano Atlântico.
- Usufruct area: Taking advantage of the local topography, a platform for community use was defined, which is divided into two spaces:
- Recreational lawn: With a total area of approximately 540 square metres, it creates a large multifunctional space where the local population can enjoy leisure activities in complete safety and well-being.
- Street Workout Park: With a total area of 430 square metres, this is an outdoor sports park comprising 7 pieces of sports equipment (which can be used simultaneously by up to 18 people):
- French triple push-up bar;
- Double parallel bar;
- Bench for abs;
- Triple level bench;
- Classic monkey bar with Swedish wall and two pull-up bars;
- Kenguru freestyle;
- Ground parallel bars.
The entire area is equipped with safety flooring and its southern boundary is materialised with a bench wall that ends up creating a seating area with an unobstructed view of the lawn and the sports practice area (allowing parents to keep an active eye on their children while they play).
- Pedestrian link between R. Oceano Índico and the recreational area: Creation of an exclusively pedestrian route between the southern street and the recreational area, respecting the limitations imposed by accessibility legislation.
